q: how did quinn and alexis meet?
a: the two were introduced by chris veltri, owner of legendary record shop groove merchant in san francisco. veltri and luke had made a pair of plunderphonic dusted disco 12 inches under the name coppa. georgopoulos was a founder of the group tussle and asked if coppa would do a tussle remix. this led to luke acting as producer on the tussle album telescope mind.

belfast bad boys, jet project, are running their city at the moment. their recent slew of tracks on labels such as viva, darkroom dubs, as well as our very own get digital with the scorching hot >zuma<, have been getting them attention with djs great and small. chugging right along in very tastefully form, the lads lend their services once again to get digital. however, this time it is an e.p. all for themselves and deservedly so with hauntingly epic >understand this<. understand this is a clinic of how to mold proper song structure into dance music form. all the key elements are there: a discernible intro, strong vocals with meaning, and a proper breakdown that utilizes a whole new group of sounds. writing tunes like these takes knowledge, effort, and passion. the dub version strips the male vocal hook away, but leaves the snippets and effects from it in there. allowing the track to ride on its full bass line and warped synth patterns..

you dont know how to rock the prime time? german newcomer toubi mcweird, known as >the mask<, tells you how to do it. the recipe is a bit of razzmatazz, not a mysterious herbal mix, but a pumping piece of electronics finest arts. the most famous 9volt family member and top act of the minimal scene andomat 3000 loves its taste, remixed toubis track and adds a flavour of his typical portion of freaked out funk. delicious!

back in 1998 this was probably just about the wrongest record you had ever heard … and it has to be said that not much has changed. forshaw has a knack of turning out ridiculously hard and mangled electro and techno tracks – but still managing to make them sound >poppy<. sometimes, as in the case of rockford for example, it is because he uses well recognisable (but unexpected) samples. but more often it is just because he manages to make tunes (no matter how hard) that make you stop gurning and start smiling.

for their first release in 2010, the infamous label kanzleramt will team up with suol for this split release called nip split : 01. as the 01 might already tell you, this isnt a one time thang ... this is just the beginning of a looooong relationship to come! on the kanzleramt side we find suol label owners chopstick & johnjon (true, its starting to get a bit complicated here) with the track infidelity that is already a sure shot in the recordbags of the suol and kanzleramt family. infidelity gives us a sneak peak on the guys background, with its sample based theme and the ruff programing. there might have been one or two hip hop parties that the two attended in the past. give this one a spin and the groove will show you, how much impact this lovely house tracker gonna have on the floors. on the flip side mr. kanzleramt himself aka heiko borrowed us his artist peter horrevorts for a dancefloor monster!

this man cant currently be stopped. following his releases through the 2nd season 2009 (>marvin” on compost, >smaul 06< & >smaul 07<) in january 2010 acid paulis >riverboat tour< came out. now, it seems he opens this years summer season with these two psychedelic thrilling tracks. even though he had been touring a lot with the notwist last year, acid pauli was pretty often an invited, musically refreshing guest in berlins minimal techno (what ever) scene. den mahlstrom rauf leaves no doubts about. great build up he does by keeping tension over five minutes to unlash finally the madness charge with a levitating reverse-ducking-compressed melody. den mahlstrom runter (a play on words of travelling on a boat and getting milled…) seems to be the return from the trip he gives on side a. it is the same track reworked. his musical drama goes faster but deeper under the cortex – but >how lucky a fate< deliverance comes at right time taking the track over to a known housy and deep realm.

minz aka michel sanchez-infante, is a dj, producer and live performer from the netherlands. after producing for a few years, his productions caught the attention of ripperton in may 2007. ripperton released minz debut >un/mute ep< and the follow-up >jade ep< on his perspectiv label. both were well received and followed by a string of remixes on labels like connaisseur, suruba and 2pin, and compilation tracks for meerestief and perspectiv. after taking some time out to work on his sound, minz is getting back up to speed with releases for suruba x and now for ransom note. his style is slowly shifting to a more housey and organic sound, while keeping the deepness, thoughtful composition and meticulous attention to detail. tracks like ganzfeld demonstrate how minz has the ability to create outstanding productions that grow slowly on you before knocking you off your feet. on remix duties is the illustrious lee jones. hot off his brilliant ep on cityfox, lee blesses ransom note with his indelible take on electronic music. as deep as it gets and with a powerful exploration of the original, lees remix of ganzfeld is stunning journey sure to set off the after party in all of us.
